The Flaming Critic Reviews:
Welcome to the
Flaming Critic corner of The Fractured Publisher. Since this is our first
review I supposed I should introduce Tonight we’re taking a look at Morevi by Tee Morris and Lisa Lee. Ooo! Let me tell you, this is one wild ride with pirates, nobility, sword fights and magic. My favorite type of novel, Morevi is absolutely edible with plenty of action and excitement. The tale starts out with Rafe receiving a sudden promotion when his captain and first mate are shot down by Spanish cannon fire. Taking over as captain of a pirate crew is nothing compared to navigating the treacherous passage through the “Rift”. Rafe succeeds and finds himself in a mysterious land full of danger and intrigue quite different from his home in fifteenth century England. Rafe quickly finds himself in the employee of Askana, the queen of Morevi. With betrayal and danger lurking in every corner of her government, Askana turns to the pirate in hopes of revealing her enemies before they can take her throne. Things really heat up as they find they must battle not only their opponents but also the growing attraction they feel for one another. If you’re shying away from this story because you’re afraid to take the risk with a small press or a new writer, then allow me to put your fears at ease. Morevi is well written and fast paced. The story flowed nicely and kept my attention to the end. The characters leapt off the page and provided a great deal of entertainment, (as well as an occasional well timed chuckle to lighten the tension).
The cover is simply
gorgeous and because the authors were permitted creative control over the
final product, the picture is actually relevant to the story (what a
unique concept! Too bad the major houses don’t allow more author input on
some of their covers…but that’s a flame for another day.)
